About the Ministry

The Ministry of Education is of relevance to every person, whānau and community in New Zealand and is a major contributor to improving our society and economy. We do this by working with others to ensure the children, young people and students of the future are competent, connected, life-long learners.

This role is based in the Ministry’s Learning Support team, and will require regular travel within the wider Waikato region.  Learning Support refers to the additional support provided to children and young people with a diverse range of needs.

About the role

As a Service Manager you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of dedicated professionals (e.g. Education Psychologists, Speech Language Therapists) in the development, co-ordination and provision of services aimed at improving social and educational outcomes for children and young people with learning support needs.

As part of the Regional Learning Support management team, you will also contribute to service development, collaborative problem solving and business planning across the Waikato Region. The implementation of the Learning Support Delivery Model will require interagency experience and high levels of influencing and collaborating skills.

About you

To be successful you will need;

  • Management and Leadership experience in education or social service delivery and an ability to coach, support and motivate others and create a positive working environment
  • Proven relationship skills and an ability to work with families, and with education and social services to develop and sustain win-win relationships
  • An ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Proven experience in achieving outcomes through developing, managing, delivering and monitoring quality services
  • Experience working with whānau Māori, facility and social sector staff, to deliver on Ka Hikitia and to raise achievement and reduce disparity for this group
  • Experience in Māori medium education and fluency in Te Reo Māori would be an advantage
  • A current driver’s licence.

What’s on offer?

  • We currently have two permanent positions available in Hamilton
  • Our work is challenging and very rewarding
  • This is a unique opportunity to deliver tangible benefits to children and young people, their whānau and the wider community.

If the role sounds of interest and you have the capability we require we would love to hear from you.
