This role, titled  Service Operations Manager  is a key operational management role for the Nelson/Tasman region, for which we are currently seeking talent here at NZ Post.

Based at our Nelson Operations Centre. This is a brilliant opportunity for an outstanding operational leader to manage our Customer Service and Parcel Processing teams. The role has five direct reports and responsibility for a wider team of around 26 indirect reports.

In this role, you’ll be focused on engaging your team in the efficient processing, and distribution of our customers’ mail and parcels, along with managing costs and service performance and improvement initiatives. We’re looking for a strong leader with the ability to create an engaged, high performing team culture. Your communication style will ensure everyone knows what’s happening and you’ll take the time to understand each individual in order to develop their skills and careers, while recognising and rewarding performance and managing poor performance. The role also has a key role in ongoing recruitment for the team and promoting vacancies in the region, so you will have the confidence to build relationships in the wider community to help advertise these. 

Reporting to the Nelson/Tasman Area Manager, this role operates during core business hours of 10am – 6pm Monday to Friday, however flexibility is required occasionally recognising the 24/7 nature of our organisation, across the various processing team to ensure leadership visibility across shift patterns and weekends from time to time. 

What skills and experience are we looking for?  

  • Operational management experience
  • Leadership experience with the ability to drive a high performance, customer-centric culture
  • Great communication skills
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills
  • Solid commercial acumen, including budgets, financials and analytical skills
  • Exposure to the logistics or transport industry would be an advantage, but not essential
