What you will do
NZDF has a team of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Advisors (SAPRAs) who work from the Bases and Camps across New Zealand. The role includes regional responsibility for ensuring that people who have been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed, are able to talk through what support needs they have regardless of whether they do or do not report the behaviour.
SAPRAs provide advice to NZDF command about support and safety needs. SAPRAs also provide advice to other professionals including Legal, HR and Medical as required. Within this role you will also regularly facilitate presentations and provide training to a wide range of groups of people.
An important part of the SAPRA role is to work with people to identify prevention opportunities on the Camp, Base or Ship – wherever our people are.
Please note: This position is Fixed Term for a period of 2 years.
What we need
We are seeking a person who has a passion for this work; someone who can bring experience designing and delivering prevention initiatives, and who has experience in response and crisis work within the sexual violence sector or related field.
As mentioned, the role does include the facilitation of training to NZDF personnel. This is a key aspect of the role and does require a good level of confidence in public speaking and the ability as an SME to deliver your message with passion and influence.
Excellent relationship management skills are essential as you will need to build trusted, professional relationships effectively engaging with a wide range of people while influencing and educating across the organisation.
NZDF is a complex environment however you are able to make that cultural adjustment in order to easily come to grips with the environment and structure of the organisation. Needless to say as an experienced professional in this sector you are highly resilient, adaptive and focussed under pressure.
The position is based in Devonport however it is a regional position which does require domestic travel and the ability to work from different locations/ bases when required. There is also a 24/7 component to the role which requires you to be on call 2 weeks out of 14.
