NIWA is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading environmental science research institute and the key provider of atmospheric, freshwater, marine research and consultancy services. We are seeking an experienced Site Operations Coordinator for our Northland Marine Research Centre (NMRC) which is NIWA’s flagship aquaculture research site, located at Ruakaka, Northland.
We are embarking on an operational expansion programme, increasing site capacity, in collaboration with scientific and commercial partners. To support this, NIWA is seeking an experienced business professional to undertake the delivery of critical science and operational tasks.
Efficient project coordination for the NMRC site is a key aspect of this position, along with sales, marketing and customer relationship tasks associated with the commercialisation of NIWA’s seafood products. Effective completion of complex procurement, inventory management and logistics tasks is needed for efficient site operations. Administrative, health and safety and event-related support are also part of the remit for this position.
There is a direct science component to support the Chief Scientist – Aquaculture, involving science literature research/analysis, information management and the drafting of technical science reports/briefs (including Standard Operating Procedures).
You will ideally hold a degree level qualification in science, business, accounting or other relevant field, with a project management qualification or equivalent experience. You will have experience across project coordination, technical science writing, sales and marketing, procurement, staff rostering and operational logistics disciplines. The ability to research and write technical science reports to a draft level and to interpret and convey technical scientific information to others in a concise and easily understood manner will be an important strength. Knowledge of health & safety practices and procedures is also required.
You will have a sound understanding of key business accounting principles and be a competent intermediate user of Microsoft software, including Excel, Word and Access. Excellent communication and organisational skills will be critical for success, along with a proactive, continuous improvement focus. Familiarity with Prince 2 or PMI/PMP and financial software such as Oracle would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of CHRIS, Snaphire, JIRA and SharePoint.
