About the opportunity
The Cancer Support role is part of the cancer psychological and social support initiative which aims to improve access to Psychological and Social Support Services for adults with cancer. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team that develops and sets up the Psychological and Social Support Service, in line with Ministry of Health specifications, and in line with the goals and philosophies of the Southern Cancer Network. You will provide social work practice at an advanced level to patients and whanau, providing assessment, intervention and evaluation of their health related difficulties. You will also work closely with other Health Professionals, non-governmental organisations and other providers of cancer support, including primary care practitioners and government departments.
The combined role requires an advanced skill level and theoretical knowledge in a specialised area of practice. You should be experienced in working in the health sector, preferably with people with cancer. You should have the ability to work creatively and autonomously, but also be able to offer strong leadership and to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team, and be able to communicate easily with a variety of people. You will need to think on your feet and remain calm under pressure.
You must hold a Professional Social Worker qualification (as per Social Worker Registration Board schedules for registration eligibility i.e. Bachelor’s degree equivalent) and be registered and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate with Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) within three months of appointment. A current full driver’s licence is required.
