About the opportunity
We are offering a unique opportunity to work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team at Lakes District Hospital. The successful candidate will work in a case management capacity and will be responsible for the delivery of supportive Social Work services to patients of the department.
You should have the ability to work autonomously, but also be a team player and be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people. This role also requires someone who can think on their feet and remain calm under pressure. The hours are flexible and a minimum of 40 hours per fortnight.
You will require excellent written and oral communication skills, needs assessment skills, networking skills, advocacy skills, critical thinking skills and you will have the ability to support and empower the patient and the family / whanau to reach their goals. Previous experience in health related Social Work will be an added advantage.
It is essential that you hold a professional social worker qualification (as per Social Worker Registration Board schedules for registration eligibility i.e. Bachelor’s degree equivalent) and be Registered and hold a current annual practicing certificate with Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) within three months of appointment. A current full driver’s licence is required.

Lake Wakatipu, set against the dramatic Southern Alps and Queenstown, renowned for adventure sports, is also a base for exploring the region’s vineyards and historic mining towns. There’s bungy jumping off Kawarau Gorge suspension bridge and jet-boating on the Shotover and Dart rivers. In winter, there’s skiing on the slopes of the Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
