Our Purpose: Why we do it

When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you’re part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.

The Team: What we do

Totara House is part of our Adult Community services and provides early intervention for young adults 18-30 who are affected by psychosis. We are passionate about ensuring the best health outcomes for our patients and are committed to supporting them in the community.

We’re looking for an NZ registered Social Worker to join our cohesive, client focused multi-disciplinary team on permanent, part-time basis working 32 hours per week. The days and hours required with this position are ideally Tuesday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, but can be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Working with individuals, groups and their families/whanau focusing on assessment and care coordination
  • Developing client-focussed and engaging care plans
  • Working with consumers from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and working collaboratively with whanau, the wider multidisciplinary team, and other relevant agencies to ensure the best outcomes
  • Identifying and contributing towards service improvement initiatives

Your skills will include the following:

  • Previous experience working in the Mental Health sector and early intervention is desirable
  • A clear understanding of Ngā Tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Previous experience working in a multi-disciplinary team is advantageous
  • NZ registration with the Social Worker board with an annual practising certificate is essential
  • Ideally you will be a Duly Authorised Officer, however we would also consider applicants who are prepared to undertake this training following appointment
  • The ability to build and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their whanau, the team and a variety of agencies in the community
  • The ability to work with a high level of autonomy and think creatively/outside the square to support our consumers
  • As some travel is required for community work, a Full NZ driver’s licence is required

This is a busy role, so you’ll need to be a great communicator and be well organised, yet flexible enough to work within an ever changing environment.
