We’re not your average bank and break the assumptions of tech in banking being old and decrepit with our award-winning technology hub in Albany where over 800 employees work on some truly remarkable products and initiatives with an agile approach. Account & Pricing is the largest single platform at ASB with a diverse technology landscape including our mainframe and SAP core banking systems but also the Microsoft .NET stack on which our Lending Applications are primarily focussed.

About the role:

You’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on with some interesting and complex pieces of work on an enterprise scale, all while being part of an agile squad.

Our squads are agile, cross-functional teams. On any given day you will be working on a variety of systems and services from legacy desktop applications to the latest .net core Api’s. You will have the opportunity to bring new technologies and apply modern practices and patterns to solve technical and business problems.

Our new build projects employ modern CI/CD pipelines and dev-ops practices to target “cloud native” deployment, enabling us to easily transition from our private data centre to the public cloud when and where it makes sense. We are always looking for ways to retrofit these technologies and practices to our legacy systems, as well as modernising and replacing them with new-build where necessary.

As a Software Specialist you will have a key role in identifying opportunities to improve the technology, engineering practices and processes in your team and inspiring them to adopt and implement those improvements. You will be expected to extend your sphere of influence beyond your team to various Guilds, the Platform and the wider Engineering Practice, both to share your knowledge and experience and to extend it by drawing on the knowledge and experience of others.

To these challenges and opportunities you will ideally bring:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Expertise in C# / .NET / .NET Core
  • Good SQL database knowledge
  • Sound knowledge of software and architectural patterns
  • A proven ability to inspire and lead change
  • Bonus points for also having:

  • Experience in engineering for the Cloud
  • Knowledge of security principles, e.g. secrets, passwords, certificates
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in Kafka or other event sourcing technologies
  • Experience of building and maintaining modern CI/CD pipelines
