About the opportunity

As a senior member of our team, you’ll provide Solution Architecture and technical leadership to successfully deliver IT solutions to business problems.

You’ll focus on maintaining, enhancing and integrating the mission critical SCADA/EMS (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition / Energy Management System) product suite we use to operate the National Grid and New Zealand Electricity Market in real-time. Our SCADA/EMS is a suite of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products that capture data and issue controls to devices in our substations and predict power system behaviour to inform our operational decisions.

You’ll also support the Enterprise Architect and Principal Architect in the creation and maintenance of the Transpower ICT Portfolio Plans and Roadmaps, and architect fit for purpose information and technology solutions – either enhanced, acquired or custom built – to meet business requirements and operate to agreed service levels.

About you

This is a senior role that requires an excellent understanding of all aspects of ICT service design, delivery and operations and exceptional communication (written and verbal) at all levels. You’ll lead the technical delivery of architecturally significant and complex projects and be accountable for the technical solution end to end, and drive technology driven innovative business solutions to successfully deliver great business outcomes.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Significant (> 15 years’) experience of application design and development and integration in enterprise-scale corporate environments
  • Experience in options analysis and selection; including implementing and managing customisation of commercial-off-the-shelf solutions
  • Breadth of experience and understanding of underlying infrastructure and platform technologies
  • Experience in DevOps environments and designing for operations
  • Excellent application middleware and integration skills and expertise
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing environment and provide assistance where needed
  • Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience developing IT service portfolio strategies
  • Experience working with communications or data acquisition and control systems
  • Experience in the power/utilities sector
  • If you’re passionate about delivery and quality, and have a desire to learn and share your knowledge with others, we’d love to hear from you. Your ability to translate user needs into technical designs and specifications and build strong relationships with peers and stakeholders will be the key to your success.
