The team 

The Database product team ensures that database services and the systems that run them are monitored, managed and continually improved. You will work closely with other product teams to deliver effect to the NZDF.

The role 

As a Solution Designer, you will be responsible for the technical detailed design for Database Platforms and understanding current state to inform future design cycles and continuous improvement, as articulated by blueprints and roadmaps. You will  provide design oversight to implementation teams, and understand user and functional requirements to design new solutions that meet customer needs.  You will also appreciate and be able to articulate the non-technology aspects of proposed solutions in order to provide the complete picture to decision makers.

You will work closely with the Domain Architect, Product Designer and members of your, and other teams to deliver solutions that are compliant with the Domain Architecture and High Level Design of the applicable product(s).

Technical skills 

Ideally the candidate would have knowledge of or exposure to a combination of the following:

  • Microsoft SQL Server;
  • Azure SQL Database and Data Warehouse;
  • Microsoft SQL Reporting Services;
  • Microsoft SQL Analysis Services;
  • Azure Platform, Monitoring and Management;
  • Oracle Database Server;
  • Redis.

Additional skills 

Experience in, or knowledge of:
Developing solution architectures;
Identifying and incorporating Security Requirements into Solution Designs;
Capacity Management;
Previous experience working in classified or commercially sensitive environments (desirable);
Automation (Runbooks).

Qualifications and certifications

  • Microsoft architecture or database certifications.
