Southland or Dunedin Hospital
What matters to you in your work? Is it a variety of interesting cases? Is it a fantastic team of other professionals? Or is the life you live outside work just as important as what you do for your career?
Well, it just so happens that you truly can have it all at Southern DHB. You’ll work across all areas of ultrasound – general, vascular, paediatric, obstetric, and every other aspect you can think of. You’ll also work with a radiologist to help out on interventional procedures.
Along with excellent spoken and written English, you’ll need a qualification in ultrasound, as well as a current practicing certificate and to be (or able to be) registered with the NZ Medical Radiation Technologist Board (NZMRTB).
You can be based in Dunedin or Invercargill, and there’s a lot to be said for both options! In Dunedin, you’ll work in a major trauma centre. That means lots of acute cases you can help get answers for, quickly. It’s a teaching hospital, so you’ll have the opportunity to mentor new graduates. Being in the centre of town, you can head to the cafés and shops at lunchtime or after work. And eventually you’ll be working in the brand new tertiary hospital that’s under construction.
Dunedin’s a great place if you like all the activities and entertainment options that go with a big city. But it’s got a special character and charm of its own, and a small-town vibe that makes life more easy-going.
Invercargill, with Southland Hospital on the other hand, gives you everything you’d want from a city hospital, with a modern work environment, interesting work and a range of specialties, but there’s a small hospital with collegial feel to it. You’ll be on first-name terms with all the staff, including the doctors. Invercargill is a lovely city for families, with affordable housing and excellent education and adventure opportunities. Surrounded by beautiful scenery many of New Zealand’s major tourist destinations, (ski fields, national parks, vineyards) and hidden treasures are on Southlands doorstep. Life is easy without a major commute. And you’ll get free onsite parking.
Whichever location you choose, you’ll find a caring, professional team. We all look out for one another and work closely together. If that’s also how you like to work, then you’ll be happy here! At the same time, though, you’ll need to be able to work independently when you’re on-call out of hours. It’s a fast-paced environment that’s always busy, and you’ll enjoy the variety of dealing with all kinds of cases and all ages of patients, from paediatric to geriatric.
If all that sounds good, there’s no better time – or place – to make the next move in your career. You’ll get a warm Southern welcome, and we might be biased, but we reckon there’s no better place in New Zealand.
And it’s all waiting for you.
