The role | Mō te tūnga

Due to internal promotions we have Statistical and Data Technician positions available within the International & Business Performance Statistics and Prices and Construction business units.

  • The International & Business Performance Statistics business unit produces economic statistics about New Zealand businesses and the trade they do with the rest of the world.
  • The Prices and Construction unit produce index statistics that measure changes in prices for goods and services (e.g. the Consumers Price Index). We also produce regular statistics on building and construction activity in the economy. 

As a Statistical and Data Technician you will be a transformer , because your role is to transform our data to a more useable, value-added state so it can be used in our statistical production process.  The work is varies from data entry, data sourcing, classifying, validating, processing, coding, checking, shaping and confronting data/questioning results… but it s so much more than that. The aim of the game is to get the data one step closer to informing important decisions in Aotearoa, and your contribution ensures our data is ready to take the next step.

As a Statistical and Data Technician you will be a part of our evidence-based decision making which impacts the lives of all New Zealanders.

About you | Mōu

  • Have experience working with data/information, and the ability to apply technical checking skills
  • Be able to plan and deliver your work to meet time and quality requirements, and deal with changing priorities
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be confident in presenting your work in plain English
  • Out the box thinking for future automation
  • Have the ability to work well in a team environment and form effective relationships with a range of people
  • Knowledge/familiarity or a commitment to learn/understand Te Ao Maori, including ensuring opportunities at Stats NZ reach the Maori community.  

Starting salary $50,170 – $61,319 depending on the skills and experience
