We have a new Chief Executive and are appointing three new Deputy Chief Executives. Our ELT works on the principles of collective leadership meaning that your first priority is the collective organisation as a whole. We are crystal clear that effective people leadership is our top priority ensuring clear expectations, coaching and development, and that our people are enabled to do their jobs effectively every day.
A significant focus of all DCE roles is leadership across the New Zealand and international data system – proactively building strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and Treaty Partners. Your leadership is vital to the effective functioning of the NZ data ecosystem and positively contributes to the global data ecosystem. As a passionate, inspiring and committed leader you will work with your third tier leaders to ensure organisational alignment against strategy and goals, that decisions and outputs are high quality, and that they in turn support an agile, innovative and customer focused way of working.
The specific DCE portfolios we are seeking to fill are:
Deputy Chief Executive Insights and Statistics
I&S s vision is to unleash the power of data to change lives by sourcing and shaping data to deliver New Zealand s critical statistics, and enriching data to provide insights and statistics for our customers. This group provides reliable and relevant data, statistics and insights on New Zealand s economy, population, society and environment. Examples include: Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), international trade and investment, employment measures, wellbeing indicators, Te Kupenga, Environmental Aotearoa 2019 and national population estimates. I&S also provide subject matter expertise and advice to our customers, data system partners and to other national statistical offices and international agencies. This group has approximately 300 staff across New Zealand, comprising insights analysts, design analysts, statistical and data technicians, data system analysts, statistical and data analysts, principal statisticians, managers and support staff.
As well as the core capabilities for all DCEs, the successful candidate for I&S will have a deep understanding of statistics and data, and will be a confident external facing champion for this mahi. You will understand the purpose and impact of the critical statistics, how collection and analysis is carried out and bring a continuous improvement perspective.
Deputy Chief Executive Data System Leadership
Data System Leadership (DSL) help New Zealand get value from data they embody Stats NZ s data stewardship function by leading the government data system and delivering the foundations for an enduring and effective data system. The group s goal is to empower government agencies to get value from data, so this role is highly externally facing and partnership oriented. The group partners with agencies to increase their capability to manage and use data, identify and remove roadblocks to accessing data, implement data standards, and use new methodologies. The group also works with iwi and Māori to make sure they can take part in decisions about their data. At the heart of this work is transparency, trust and integrity around the use of data the government holds.
The successful candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate innovation and delivery. The critical success factor will be your ability to build meaningful cross-sector partnerships. Your leadership will engage and inspire a diverse team including Te Tohu Rautaki Angitu Māori, customer channels, IDI, enterprise architecture and system partnerships. As a true system leader you will be externally facing and focus on how Stats NZ can enable New Zealand through the power of data.
Chief Operating Officer
This newly created position leads the Organisational Capability and Services group which supports Stats NZ to focus and position itself for ongoing success through effective, joined-up corporate functions. With approximately 200 staff in your overall team, you have responsibility for Organisational Strategy and Planning, People, Legal, Finance, and Business Performance.
In this role, you will be a passionate culture builder and people leader, supporting the Chief Executive and Chief People Officer to deliver the vision for the Stats NZ culture. You will have a background in corporate services, people and strategy, with a demonstrated track record in creating successful high performance and innovative organisations. You will have strong people, financial and commercial acumen skills, and draw on your knowledge of business management principles and information technology practices and trends.
