An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly experienced, dynamic and innovative professional to join our fantastic team in the beautiful Bay of Plenty-Waiariki. 

This is a fulltime permanent senior leadership role that will report directly to the Director of Education, Bay of Plenty-Waiariki and will be part of the regional leadership team.  This role will be based in either our Rotorua or Tauranga office but they will be expected to work across our other Ministry offices across the region as when required.  

 

Strategic Māori Advisor Role

The Strategic Advisor will provide strategic advice to the Director of Education and support the Director to lead engagements with iwi and Māori stakeholders.  One of their key priorities will be to work with iwi and hapū to support them to deliver on their education plans and priorities.

The role also provides leadership across the region to help the organisation accelerate Māori educational achievement, seeking equity outcomes and the promotion of Māori identity, language and culture.

 

Sector Enablement and Support

Sector Enablement and Support (SE&S) is the key interface between the ministry and education providers. It is our role to ensure that sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes and resources that will allow our children and young people to reach their full potential.

We give effect to government and ministry policy and support education and community leadership within a self managing system, to bring about the positive changes required to lift aspiration, and raise educational achievement for all. 

 

About You

We are looking for a person who has:

  • Experience of working in a large Government organisation in a senior role
  • Developed networks, credibility and relationships with iwi and Māori organisations
  • Ability in te reo Māori that enables the Strategic Advisor to communicate effectively when required at a level acceptable to the audience.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and sound judgement, in particular, the ability to analyse information, develop options and think strategically.
  • Knowledge of the education sector would be an advantage. 
  • Skills in leading and motivating others, able to challenge, facilitate, supervise and coach leaders to increase capacity for excellence, and where necessary, change.
