We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate people leader to join our biodiversity team in Coromandel.

The role

Now we have your attention let’s talk about the role.  The biodiversity supervisor leads a small team of biodiversity rangers to deliver on the district’s biodiversity work programme.  From any day to another the passionate team you’re leading are out in the field monitoring and protecting native wildlife, habitats and plants right through to controlling pests and weeds.  They could even be out on the boat in the 4 marine reserves across the coromandel.

Working alongside others is crucial in this role, so you will need to be able to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of people both internally and externally.  There are elements of project management and contractor management with a huge emphasis on health, safety and wellbeing.


A bit about you

You will be a natural people leader who is passionate about leading by example and being part of a positive team culture.  You could be an experienced people leader wanting a change in your environment, looking for better work life balance where you can bring your transferrable skills to conservation. 

We are looking for a supervisor who can mentor, coach and build others through developing skills, processes and a team environment people are able to thrive in.  Equally, you are not afraid to be out in the field with the team, perhaps even incorporating management by walk about into your style.


Key skills

  • Proven experience in leading/supervising others
  • Demonstrated experience of achieving successful outcomes across a geographically dispersed team
  • Strong health and safety focus
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Personal attributes including resilience and flexibility, with an ability to work in ambiguity
  • Knowledge or experience in field conservation management would be advantageous
  • Full NZ drivers licence
