We are seeking a talented Support Technician to join our Information Network Operations Centre (INOC).

The INOC manages the effective, efficient and secure operation of the GCSB formal communications system, and is responsible for the 24/7 monitoring of secure WAN and LANs and associated dataflow and processing systems. It provides first level diagnostic and IT support to designated communications equipment, associated data processing systems and customer support applications tools.

In the role you will be responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting a range of systems at the technical heart of the New Zealand Intelligence Community. You will work closely with partner organisations within New Zealand and overseas, operating unique technology to support important work.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A strong customer service ethic, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a sole-charge shift environment.
  • An awareness of Service Management principles and processes.
  • An understanding of Local Area and Wide Area network operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of multiple operating systems, particularly MS Windows and UNIX.
  • Technical aptitude with the motivation to learn new systems and applications.

Our Support Technicians work on a 24/7 shift basis, reflecting the need for our networks and systems to be continuously operational, and the potential for significant events to occur at any time of the day or night. Support Technicians also work during normal business hours when required to conduct training and administrative tasks.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
