What is the role?

At Collection Operations, we are at the forefront of Stats NZs operations.  Sourcing data from businesses and households across NZ is our core business.

The Systems and Data Leader is part of our Auckland based team. They lead a team of Data Technicians and Survey Coordinators that help us manage some of the administrate functions collecting both our business and social surveys. We are a small, close knit team looking to drive our success further as we look to introduce new tools and processes to source quality data digitally.

This position is a dual role where you are accountable for leading a small team of people as well as undertaking the role of the people you lead. At Stats NZ we call this a ‘Practising Leader’.

The Systems and Data Leader has a strong quality focus. The role is also accountable for our relationship with our external mail house, and print post activities.


Reporting to the Team Manager Systems and Data, your broad role as a Systems and Data Leader will see you:

  • Build and Lead a high performing team through supporting, training and coaching your people to self-manage and achieve their targets.
  • Lead the day to day work of your team and act as an escalation point for your team to resolve supplier queries and technical questions. 
  • Providing technical and analytical support to your Team Manager to enhance operational service delivery.
  • Develop and manager quality assurance processes to manage risk in your work area


Our ideal candidate is likely to have:

  • Strong team leadership experience
  • An ability to lead and coach people to achieve outstanding results
  • An analytical mind and effective problem-solving skills
  • Data manipulation skills with Intermediate/advanced MS Office skills.
  • Salesforce experience required
  • Experience working with data transfer between organisations would be an advantage.
