About the Organisation and Branch

MPI is helping maximise export opportunities for our primary industries, improve sector productivity, ensure the food we produce is safe, increase sustainable resource use, and protect New Zealand from biological risk. We employ over 2,200 staff in 70 locations both here and overseas.
The Operations Branch has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand’s borders. It manages border and compliance activities as well as preparing for and responding to biosecurity threats within New Zealand. In addition to screening cargo consignments for biosecurity risk, the target evaluation team also screen cargo applications for food safety purposes.
About the Role:
Target Evaluators provide the first level of protection for frontline biosecurity border and food safety clearance in New Zealand by making an initial assessment of risk. You’ll identify consignments of interest and make the initial assessment of risk and then direct appropriate responses.
You’ll contribute to the development of risk profiles that allow more effective risk interventions. You’ll interact with the public and industry through the public counters and phones.

This role may require you to work rostered duty periods to provide around the clock coverage (we operate a 24 hour screening service).
