Sentinel A Nuku is a programme to prepare the next generation of environment and conservation managers and technical experts.  It is a concept and philosophy that reflects the best of both worlds; Te Ao Pakeha and Te Ao Maori.

 

We are looking for 20 enthusiastic, energetic, creative and organised tauira to join the Sentinel A Nuku programme. These roles will be based in the Central North Island (Hawkes Bay, Turangi, Taupo, Rotorua, Whakatane, Murupara, Taranaki, Wairoa, Gisborne or Tauranga).

 

The programme is an employment opportunity for two years.  It will provide workplace training, education, practical skills and personal development in the management of te taiao in a tikanga Maori context.

 

Each tauira will be a team member in the programme contributing to conservation and environmental work.  The training programme will include learning about the legal, administrative and technical  framework as well as practical field skills across the spectrum of conservation and environmental work.

 

An individual programme will be developed based on your location and personal circumstance.

  • Drive and commitment to achieve personally through work
  • An interest and involvement in the natural environment through activities that connect to the environment and conservation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with colleagues, members of the public and partners.
  • Appropriate level of fitness to work in the backcountry
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours
