About us

The International Child Protection Unit and Intercountry Adoption Team are two teams within Oranga Tamariki-Ministry for Children. The core focus of our work is ensuring that children crossing international borders are afforded child safeguarding measures which protect and support their rights, safety and wellbeing. We are committed to ensuring that decisions that are being made are child-centred and are aimed at achieving the very best outcomes for our tamariki.

About the role

In this role, you will assist two small teams of Senior Advisors who are mainly based at Oranga Tamariki National Office, Wellington. Ability to travel occasionally (including overnight) is a requirement of this job.

You will be responsible for a range of administrative tasks including becoming efficient with our electronic recording systems for client files (CYRAS and TRIM). You will also be required to develop new systems to ensure an efficient and effective delivery of service to your team. You will need to be able to demonstrate an advanced level of technical proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The role involves contact with our government partners and stakeholders so you will need to be a person who has advanced communication and interpersonal skills, and who is professional and respectful. You will be dealing with information which is confidential and sensitive so you will need to understand the importance of confidentiality and how this information is managed and stored.

Preference is given to those who have the following:

  • Proven experience in office administration
  • Effective organisation, planning and time management skills
  • Right to work in New Zealand
