About us

Putting children first guides everything we do at Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children (Oranga Tamariki). Along with that, we value fairness and sincerity. We treat whānau with respect and we think long-term. We believe that by getting involved early and showing love and care, we give children the best chance of growing into happy thriving New Zealanders. A founding principle for Oranga Tamariki is our high aspirations for tamariki Māori and their whānau. We work alongside our community partners to bring about positive outcomes for the tamariki, rangatahi and whānau we work with.

Based within the Tamariki Advocate Voice of Children Group, the Voices of Children and Young People team works to ensure tamariki and rangatahi involved with the care system are able to participate in decision making and have their voices heard, valued and acted on.

About you

We are looking for someone with administration experience, or who has recently completed their tertiary studies and has great organising skills, with a ‘can do’ attitude to support the General Manager and the Voices of Children and Young People team.

Some of your main responsibilities will include the following:

  • Diary and email management for the General Manager
  • Organising meetings
  • Managing travel and event arrangements for the team and external members, including the rangatahi we work with
  • Supporting the team on various projects as required

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills – including the ability to communicate warmly and thoughtfully with rangatahi and staff
  • be able to build good relationships with a variety of people
  • be organised and able to multi-task on a range of activities
  • remain level-headed and calm in a fast-paced working environment
  • demonstrate proficient technical skills in the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • work well as part of a team and be comfortable using your initiative and being proactive
  • have a positive attitude where no task is too small.

This is great role for someone looking to grow or develop their administration skills in a fast-paced environment. If you are proactive, reliable and organised, get in touch.
