Transport Services is changing, and a new operating model is being introduced to enable us to meet the growing demands on our transport system, better serve our regions and fully develop our multimodal transport capability. Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
As the Team Lead, Local Government Partnerships, you will be responsible for building and leading a high performing team to assist in the development and delivery of system-wide solutions through optimising and monitoring the investment in local government activities and programmes. This role works closely with others to influence transport system investment to ensure the achievement of desired transport outcomes for New Zealand.
As well as being accountable for the Waka Kotahi values and behaviours, your role has the following specific key accountabilities:
- Build and maintain professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and customers
- Provide meaningful and timely communication to the sector so that stakeholders understand their requirements in relation to the government transport sector objectives and their priorities
- Influence and advise on local government transport activities to deliver transport system-wide outcomes
- Provide knowledge leadership on a range of regional projects and regular programmes
- Contribute to strategic planning for investment activities within regions
- Provide support, assurance and investment assessment advice, for local government transport activities, including (but not limited to) public transport, local road improvement and walking and cycling and road safety programmes
- Support the team to monitor and report on the ongoing delivery of the Regional Land Transport Plan / National Land Transport Programme

As well as your leadership attributes, you will need to bring your ‘know how’:
- Demonstrated people management experience in leading high performing teams
- Demonstrated experience in growing and developing team members
- A good understanding of Government policy and legislation as it relates to an integrated, sustainable, affordable, responsive and safe land transport system
- Understand the political and strategic context of strategies and the ability to deliver outcomes that enable economic development
- Knowledge of local authority planning for transportation and investment decision making process
- The ability to work strategically within a national context
- The ability to effectively bring together multiple perspectives
- Membership of an appropriate related professional organization is desirable
