The TEC – Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua is a small Crown agency with a big job to do – ensuring New Zealanders have the skills and the knowledge they need to ensure lifelong success to build a great country. We lead the Government’s relationship with the tertiary education sector in New Zealand and provide career services from education to employment.

We’re looking for a Team Leader to help the Fund Specialists grow by setting up an “Allocate and Invest” team to focus on payments, performance monitoring, and their supporting systems.

TEC’s Fund Specialists Team administers over $3 billion of public funding each year. We allocate it across 40 Funds, to over 600 institutions including Universities, polytechnics, wānanga, schools, and private training enterprises. The Funds span research, degree-level training, vocational training and foundational education.

You are likely to have experience in a public sector financial role. You’ll have a strong interest in developing financial systems and people processes to achieve the best possible value from public funds. You might be seeking to step up into a people leadership role or already have managerial experience. You’ll be ready to take responsibility as a product owner and business owner to lead continuous improvement of how TEC invests in tertiary education and research.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Leading, coaching and supporting a team of highly skilled Fund Specialists to deliver their work plans accurately and on time
  • As Product Owner, leading continuous improvement to our financial management systems and business processes
  • Ensuring that TEC’s funding decisions are systematically tracked and implemented
  • Develop and implement Fund performance monitoring and reporting
  • Seeking opportunities to improve how we work across the TEC.

What will you bring?

  • Your experience and passion for leading and developing a team along with your coaching and mentoring approach to leadership
  • Your experience and strong understanding of financial management systems and performance monitoring, and the ability to share your knowledge
  • Your experience in a funding, financial and /or business process improvement environment.
