What you will do

As the Team Leader – Project and Communications, you will be responsible for the development and implementation engagement and communication initiatives for Veterans’ Affairs at both the strategic and tactical level, managing channels and publications, and managing the Commemorative Fund. You will also be responsible with supporting the Project Manager in the management and delivery of major projects on behalf of Veterans Affairs.

What we need

To be successful in this role you will be an excellent communicator who has the ability to build and maintain relationships across a large and complex organisation. You will need to have:

  • Experience with developing and implementing both strategic and tactical communications;
  • Experience in event management and the ability to oversee a budget;
  • Sound research and analytical skills;
  • The ability to travel within New Zealand as required.

Who we are

Veterans Affairs is the unit within NZDF which provides services to veterans who have been injured or become ill as a result of their service. Our governing legislation is the Veterans’ Support Act 2014. We are a customer service team, with a goal of ensuring that we support ill or injured veterans to live their best lives. As part of ensuring ongoing recognition and respect for service, we also provide policy advice on issues relating to veterans and manage government’s relationship with veteran representative organisations.

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
