Mō tō mātou rōpū (About our team):

We currently have a unique opportunity for a social media specialist with team management experience. This role will have responsibility for ensuring that all social media strategies, content and responses are aligned with the values and strategic priorities of MPI. The team leader will also drive the delivery of enriching and engaging stories from across the business and will be able to provide advice as to how to present stories for greatest impact. You will also be responsible for the performance and development of social media team members. 

You will be working alongside other media professionals to build and enhance MPI’s reputation and ensure engagement with the public, media and stakeholders around Food Safety, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity.

You are a communications leader who is proactive, politically and digitally savvy and attuned to issues, risks and opportunities.  You will have significant experience in managing social media accounts and creating share-worthy content.  You will have experience in managing and developing staff or you will be looking to take this next step in your career. You will be able to influence others across MPI, particularly to achieve the goal of encouraging teams to identify, develop and generate social media content. As this is a fast-paced role, you must have the ability to calmly manage multiple changing priorities and thrive under pressure. You will have both a strategic focus and an eye for detail. 

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga (About the role):

  • Develop and implement a social media and content strategy
  • In collaboration with the business units, plan, create and publish engaging, educational and entertaining content (including written, photo and video). 
  • Develop and implement effective workflow, content planning processes and integrated content calendars.
  • Identify, develop and generate social media opportunities to enhance trust and confidence in MPI, with the ability to forecast emerging issues and actively advise on risks
  • Lead the delivery of a fast, friendly and helpful service to people who engage with MPI via social media.
  • Ensure all content aligns with best-practice, social media strategies and brand guidelines
  • Ensure that there is constant social media monitoring so we can respond faster and more cohesively to issues and successes.
  • Frequently report on social insights, provide actionable recommendations and advice that is insight led and evidence based.  
  • Contribute to the capability development of colleagues with in Public Affairs and the rest of MPI
  • Support the development of MPI’s stakeholder relationship framework, principles and practices. Build and sustain positive working relationships with MPI staff and other government agencies, interest groups, sector organisations, media, information services agencies and international counterpart organisations.
  • Contribute to the effective management of the Ministry by producing plans, performance measures and reporting within the framework of the Ministry’s planning and performance cycle
  • Provide leadership and management to all staff within the function by ensuring robust processes for communication, engagement, learning and development and performance management are implemented.
