Transport Services is an end-to-end business group that focuses on our transport system – from policy and planning, through design and delivery, to maintenance and operations. Transport Services is changing, and a new operating model is being introduced to enable us to meet the growing demands on our transport system, better serve our regions and fully develop our multimodal transport capability. This new operating model has created over 50 exciting new opportunities nationwide to keep Aotearoa moving.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunities
We are looking for four team leaders to join our national team – one to lead our Auckland/Northland team; one for Wellington/Palmerston North; one for Waikato/Bay of Plenty; and one to lead a national technical team (location flexible).
The purpose of these roles is to build and lead a high performing team to assist the development and delivery of consistent and quality resource management planning practice. These roles will work closely with others to influence land use and transport design and delivery to ensure the achievement of desired transport outcomes for New Zealand.
As well as being accountable for the Waka Kotahi values and behaviours, your role has the following specific key accountabilities:
- Develop, coach, mentor and lead team members to provide high quality technical expertise in all facets of RMA planning and other statutory processes related to the necessary consenting and permissions required for Waka Kotahi works across design, delivery and maintenance.
- Influence local government processes through both formal and informal means to ensure effects of third-party activities and growth planning on the transport network are taken into account in decision making.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders and customers.
- Develop pragmatic solutions on relevant strategic issues and complex challenges.
- Provide knowledge leadership on a range of projects and programmes.
- Represent the Transport Agency in regional and national forums.
Ko wai koe | About you
As well as your leadership attributes, you will need to bring your ‘know how’:
- Demonstrated people management experience in leading high performing teams
- Extensive experience in stakeholder management
- A good understanding of policy and legislation as it relates to the transport system
- Knowledge of local authority planning for transportation and investment decision making process
- The ability to work strategically within a national context
- Ability to interpret technical information for a wide range of audiences
