Mō te tūranga - About the role

The Animal Health and Welfare Directorate is looking for a highly capable team manager with the passion and drive to make a difference in animal health for the Ministry of Primary Industries.

The Team Manager Animal Health will be responsible for a new animal health team that will provide animal health expertise and support for sectors and farmers focused on endemic animal health issues and disease.

This position will have responsibility for developing farmer and veterinary centric animal health initiatives and advice. It will also connect with other areas of animal health internally and externally to advance animal health system improvements.

You’ll need to be a team builder, use your influencing skills and be good at delivering practical outcomes. You’ll get the chance to set up a new team and scope a work programme that will demonstrate value.

Managing technical people to deliver practical outcomes will be a proven strength.

This is a permanent full time position based in Wellington, the remuneration for this role will be paid commensurate to the experience of the successful candidate.

Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako - Skills and Experience

You’ll hold a veterinary qualification (registerable in NZ), have experience managing teams and have a sound understanding of epidemiological principles, ideally with some post graduate training or experience.

Up-to-date knowledge of current trends in the international and domestic animal health regulatory environments will be important, and as a people leader you will understand how to lead, motivate and develop technical staff. You’ll need to understand animal health and production in the NZ context and how to work with different groups to deliver meaningful change.

The Directorate sits within the Agriculture and Investment Services Business Unit within MPI, and is dedicated to enhancing farmer-facing opportunities that promote sustainable productive primary industries.
