We are recruiting a permanent Technical Advisor Certification to join Maritime New Zealand’s Certification team within the Compliance Systems Delivery Group, based in Wellington.

About us

Maritime New Zealand is the regulatory compliance and response agency for the safety, security and environmental protection of New Zealand’s coastal and inland waterways. It helps to develop and maintain the national safety, security and environmental protection regulations that govern the operation of vessels, ports and offshore installations in New Zealand waters.

About the role

The Technical Advisor Certification is responsible for processing applications by vessel owners, operators and participants in the maritime industry. You will provide a high level of customer service and advice to a wide range of clients with a deep level of understanding around customer care and relationship management. You will also have a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, computer literacy, time management skills and self-motivation. In addition you will be required to act with sensitivity and discretion when dealing with confidential information.

A background in the maritime industry is not necessary; however experience processing applications in accordance with an established framework would be an advantage, as would the ability to interpret technical information.

The successful candidate will need to have a current and clean driver’s licence and be available to travel within New Zealand occasionally.

About the team

The Certification team has a crucial role in entry and exit control in the New Zealand maritime regulatory system. They provide information, education and advice concerning certification as well as the assessment and processing of applications. The wider Compliance Systems Delivery Group helps to deliver positive safety and environmental outcomes through the provision of planning, guidance, practice management and reporting, that supports risk-based, intelligence-led compliance activities.
