The Role

We are seeking a high performing, experienced and organised person lead a team of 6 – 7 processing staff across Christchurch and Wellington, as an integral part of the monitoring/managing the workflow for the data entry and data quality for the National Biodiversity Monitoring and Reporting Programme.


You will be responsible for prioritising and allocating work for your team, directing staff, evaluating and providing feedback on the quality of your team’s work. Concentrating heavily on adherence to quality assurance standards, procedures for digitising data along with the quality of the data and provision, which is used for national reporting and funding.


This role would suit a high performing, experienced and organised person who will provide ongoing training and day to day management of the team. In this role you will be adopting current processes and procedures and adding value though continuous improvement practices.



  • Team leadership and workflow management of data entry team
  • Tracking and monitoring of data and quality assurance
  • Project planning/management and status reporting
  • Adherence to principals and procedures around data and information management
  • Maintenance and refining of systems processes and standards for data capture/data quality
  • Fostering and maintaining relationships with internal clients, as well external vendors and database administrators.
  • Contract management Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research for updates and maintenance of the NVS database.
  • Recruitment of staff and training


Skills and Experience

  • Leadership experience
  • Ability to work under pressure and with competing deadlines
  • Workflow management whilst keeping in mind and adhering to programme timelines
  • The ability to follow procedures, processes and the ability to apply critical thinking and identify areas for improvement
  • Experience in a data dominant or analysis role 
  • Strong communicator with the ability to interpret, explain and convey complex information
  • Strong organisational skills and an attention to detail
  • Experience/working knowledge of MS Access and SQL scripting/commands
  • Interest in ecology and the outdoors would be beneficial, but not a show stopper
