The Ministry is ambitious about New Zealand’s role in the Asia Pacific, and the role trade and economic policy can play in addressing future challenges. In 2021 New Zealand will chair APEC and for the first time the entire year of meetings will be run virtually. APEC 2021 is a significant opportunity for New Zealand to work with our fellow economies to support the region’s economic recovery from COVID-19.

We are looking for three Technical Support Engineers to provide overarching quality assurance, delivery partner liaison, and on-site technical support to our virtual APEC meetings. By providing seamless technical support, you will ensure APEC participants (including economies delegates from around the world) are able to fully participate in our virtual meetings, contributing to the success of our APEC host year.

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Sound knowledge of how a virtual meeting platform (e.g Microsoft Teams/Cisco Webex/Zoom) is setup and operates
  • Understanding of cloud technology fundamentals (Amazon AWS/Office 365)
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client rapport and advocacy
  • Experience in the provision of more complex second tier service support to both individual users and user groups regarding applications including technical areas (virtual meeting hardware and peripherals), and/or software applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of LAN related hardware and software
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated and willing to accept ownership of tasks and areas of responsibility
  • Ability to anticipate issues and problems and think of creative solutions
  • Ability to identify and analyse information to arrive at an appropriate solution
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- oral, active listening, and written
  • Sound judgement and decision making skills
  • Ability to multi-task, effectively plan and manage time well, and work well under pressure
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Strong focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and engage in information sharing, technical assistance, advice and support to team, including providing work leadership or direction for other support professionals

Please note this is a fixed term role with an indicative end date of 30 November 2021. Some shift work will be required to support meeting clusters across multiple time zones.

You must have the ability to obtain and maintain appropriate New Zealand government security clearance.
