Transfusion Medicine Specialist
About the role
This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join the New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) as a Transfusion Medicine Specialist. You will join our highly regarded team of experienced specialists who provide transfusion advice and support for clinical teams across the country. This role will be based in our Regional Blood Centre in Christchurch and with your local clinical colleagues, you will bring clinical direction and support for our services across the South Island of New Zealand. You will be encouraged to develop expertise that will enable you to offer clinical leadership to one of our specialist services.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you will deliver a high-quality transfusion medicine service to the NZBS Regional Centre and the regional hospitals. The region includes two teaching hospitals (in Christchurch and Dunedin) which provide a full range of tertiary services and provide opportunities to contribute to clinical education and research. You will provide supervision of the rotating haematology registrars and work closely with our Transfusion Nurse Specialists and blood bank teams.
To be successful in securing this position, you must be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You must also meet the English language profiency requirements.

The NZBS Christchurch Centre provides blood and plasma processing, testing and specialist services for the South Island as well as being one of our largest donation centres. The service includes an active clinical apheresis unit, stem-cell processing and a therapeutic venesection programme. The New Zealand Haemovigilance programme is also based here.
