The Treatment Supervisor Brachytherapy – Radiation Therapist provides support to the Head of Treatment by taking on delegated leadership and operational tasks for the team. Communication and liaison with staff is essential in this role to ensure patients receive optimal treatment, education, assessment and interventions. This role must ensure the daily coordination of the operational requirements for the HDR Brachytherapy unit and requires a strong knowledge of standards, processes and policies as they will be a force for development and quality improvement. They will be the planning and treatment expert in the HDR Brachytherapy area. Their practice will consistently demonstrate leadership, expertise and innovation of practice. The HDR Brachytherapy service is a patient orientated activity and the staff member must be prepared to work irregular hours depending upon the patient and procedure requirements.

Duties

  • Supervise and participate in the provision of an effective and efficient radiation therapy service for patients within the Wellington Blood & Cancer Centre including the day to day co-ordination of the HDR Brachytherapy area
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate and safe care during radiation treatment
  • Enhance the quality of patient care and service delivery
  • Provide expertise. Leadership, and support to the Brachytherapy team
  • Skills & Experience

  • Registration with the NZMRTB and current New Zealand APC
  • Advanced experience with HDR Brachytherapy mould room, planning, and treatment delivery
  • Ability to coordinate a treatment service (specifically HDR brachytherapy) including managing patients, staff, resources, and equipment
  • Evidence of continued professional development in Radiation Therapy
  • Experience supervising and teaching students and/or new graduate Radiation Therapists
  • Experience with clinical practice development projects
  • Supervisory experience and/or senior experience is an advantage
  • Post graduate qualifications (or working towards one) is an advantage
