This position leads a team of seven governance advisers, development economists and policy officers providing expert advice across the New Zealand Aid Programme and implementing governance and economic activities in the Pacific.

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
The Governance and Economics Unit Manager role leads a dedicated team that provides thematic (governance and economic) leadership across the New Zealand Aid Programme, and implements a range of activities in multiple countries in the Pacific.
You’ll be at the heart of decisions on how best New Zealand can support the economic resilience of Pacific countries in the face of Covid-19.
Other priority areas include re-setting New Zealand’s regional judicial support activities, and developing and implementing transparency, remittances, climate financing and budget support activities.
Your team also provides economic and governance advice and technical support across the New Zealand Aid Programme. Through this advisory role, your team helps to improve the effectiveness of our projects, and in so doing making a positive difference to peoples’ lives.

We’re looking for a dynamic and motivated senior economist who wants to make a difference.
Ideally you will have experience working in developing countries, with aid programming or working in an economic role the New Zealand public sector.
You’ll enjoy engaging and collaborating across teams and with a range of stakeholders both in New Zealand and offshore. You’ll also be naturally curious, drawn to identifying applicable insights and to understanding wider context.
You’ll be familiar with project delivery, and have experience driving towards an outcome, managing portfolio financials and ensuring strategic fit.
And we’re looking for someone who thrives on developing and leading engaged and resilient teams that are providing proactive and well-founded advice or delivering impactful and well-managed projects.
