Veterinarian (Veterinary Technical Supervisor 2) – Christchurch

The Team Manager Establishments for Christchurch is looking for a Veterinarian (Veterinary Technical Supervisor 2) to join the Christchurch team.

 

About the role: Kōrero mō te tūranga

The role is based at the MPI site in Rakaia. There are two premises at this site; Anzco Rakaia and Mountain River Processors. There will be at least two days working at this site with increased days during the bobby calf season including some weekend work.

Anzco Rakaia is a small processing premises of ovine and bobby calves. Mountain River Processors is an independently owned, farmed and wild deer processing premises. Both premises are modern and friendly. The two days at this site would involve one day working with the Veterinary Technical Supervisor 1 (VTS1) on site and one day covering the VTS1’s rostered day off.

One day will be at Anzco Canterbury which is located just outside Ashburton. This is a large, busy three vet premises processing ovine and bovine. There is a significant amount of off-site cold storage necessitating a high ecert workload. The role here is an extra resource day and there would be significant cross over with the on-site vets.

One day is currently unassigned outside the bobby calf season and completion of other verifications such as on farm verifications or general reliever duties is expected.

A degree of flexibility is expected, during the bobby calf season the role may require three days at Rakaia. Including some weekend work, and one day at Anzco Canterbury.

This role would suit a variety of candidates who wish to experience working at different premises with different species, you will be a good team player and be able to work with different Supervising Vets (VTS1). The veterinarians in this team are experienced and supportive and thus can provide coaching and mentoring support.

  • A qualified and registered Veterinarian
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with HACCP, Quality Assurance systems, Risk Management Systems
  • Verbal and written skills, verbal and analytical reasoning skills
  • Integrity and trust, ethics and values, resilience, adaptability and openness
  • Persuading and influencing, team work, planning and organising
  • Computer literacy – can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard e.g. word-processing, excel, internet, email, database, secure sites, electronic certification, residues etc
  • An understanding of basic food technology
  • A willingness to embrace the verification services Triple O way of working
