What you will do 

You’ll become a highly valued and critical member of the team, as you manage the main telephone line into RNZAF Base Woodbourne.  You’ll provide the vital first point of contact for all emergency calls into the Fire Station, from Air traffic control or Fire and Emergency NZ, along with coordinating the emergency response in terms of despatching people and resources.  

Additionally, you will answer any general queries to the main line, forwarding calls to the correct people or unit, along with providing administrative assistance to the Base Fire Master and wider team.

Along with significant customer service experience, ideally within emergency response or perhaps call centre environment or reception desk, you will: 

  • Provide an exceptional level of customer service;
  • Communicate confidently, clearly and effectively at all times;
  • Work well under pressure and maintain composure;
  • Maintain positive working relationships and build rapport with others quickly;
  • Work independently and pro-actively manage your own space, while remaining part of the team;
  • Be flexible and adaptive to changing needs and priorities. 

Who we are

The Woodbourne Fire Flight unit (Firefighting) provides cover at RNZAF Base Woodbourne, Marlborough Airport, within the community and at times we support National and International Rescue Fire Services. However, we are primarily responsible for the provision of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) and Garrison Emergency response to RNZAF Base Woodbourne for the preservation of life and the protection of NZDF property and assets. 

The Fire Flight provides a 24/7 emergency response and can also be tasked to provide ARFF coverage on exercises and deployments throughout NZ. 

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
