Youth Worker (Casual)
Do you have a passion to enhance the lives of young people at risk and experience working with youth from a range of cultures? This is a unique opportunity for those mature individuals studying in social work, psychology or mental health, or for anyone with experience caring for rangatahi/youth.
We are looking for casual youth workers to work across our two foster care services in Hawkes Bay.
With the SCP (Specialist Caregiver Programme) service, you will work with caregivers to assist young people to develop and practice skills including behaviour management, communication, coping and problem-solving skills.
With the THH (Teaching Family Group Home) service, you will be responsible for the day to day household management of the residential home. This will include both therapeutic components and the regular day to day duties such as housework, meal preparation and recreational activities.
Work collaboratively as part of a team, including supporting the other practitioners and caregivers
Assist youths to develop and practice skills including, behaviour management, communication, coping and problem-solving skills.
Support and empower the young people within the home to undertake their daily activities, meet their goals and change their behaviour through the application of the service model.
Assist with our holiday/day programmes
Assist with the day to day running of the home
Ability to work on a casual basis including paid sleepovers and occasional week day trainings/meetings.
Ability to provide nurture and structure and to be a strong positive adult role model
Previous conflict resolution experience and experience in working with young people from a range of cultures
The ability to build strong relationships with peers and stakeholders
Be culturally aware and willing to be a part of a bi-cultural journey
Have a full and clean New Zealand driver’s licence
A clear Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and Police vetting check
