This role sits within the Business Management Team in the Labour Science and Enterprise (LSE) Group.

The Business Management Team’s purpose is to advise, support, connect stakeholders, and champion continuous improvement, to shape and achieve LSE’s future direction and goals. The team is responsible for delivering LSE group planning and reporting processes and systems.

 

About the role

The Senior Business Advisor contributes to the operational success of their group and works in partnership with senior managers to strengthen the overall capability of business groups within MBIE, and help ensure the quality and consistency of advice, services and practices across these business groups.

The Senior Business Advisor will lead and contribute to the preparation of planning and reporting documents (Annual Report, Estimates, and Select Committee processes), preparation of business plans and being a key contact between the group and others within MBIE.  The role will also support the Business Manager in establishing and maintaining relevant governance and leadership arrangements.

 

What you will need to bring

We are looking for a high performer with at least five years’ experience in a government planning and reporting role at either the corporate or business group level. An in depth knowledge of machinery of government and government planning and accountability processes is an essential prerequisite for this role.  You will be passionate about the difference your work makes to governance and management and be well versed in the nuance of working with state sector process to achieve outcomes.  Comfort working in ambiguous environments and achieving results through applying critical thinking will be a huge advantage.  Coaching and mentoring at all levels to influence change will also be one of your strength’s. 

Ideally, you bring the following skills and experience

  • At least five years’ experience in planning, reporting (internal and external), and/or governance role.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • A team player with strong communication skills based on a collaborative approach
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with people at all levels both within and outside of MBIE.
  • Committed to driving continuous improvement through all aspects of work.
  • Must have legal right to live and work in NZ.
