Assistant Registrar – Waitangi Tribunal Unit, Wellington

The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Māori relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework.

The Opportunity

The Assistant Registrar supports the Waitangi Tribunal by performing registrarial functions essential to the effective operation of the organisation. These include:

  • registration of claims
  • preparing Legal Aid application reports
  • providing drafting assistance and advice in relation to legal and procedural issues

Skills and Experience

  • an LLB, or advanced study towards an LLB, is essential
  • understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence
  • experience working with Māori groups and organisations
