Civil Defence is a Branch of the Department of Defence and the Department is responsible for the overall strategic direction of Civil Defence in Ireland, and for the delivery of training, on a national basis.


Civil Defence provides a support service to the following Principal Response Agencies (PRAs):

  • Local Authority - Director of Services/Fire & Rescue Services

  • An Garda Síochána

  • Health Service Executive/National Ambulance Service

    • Civil Defence College is an integral part of the Branch and is the National Training Centre for Civil Defence.
