About the Role
This position is a dynamic, high-pressured, and full responsibility. The DNM plays a pivotal role in ensuring that hospital wards and departments operate smoothly, safely, and efficiently over a 24‑hour period, especially during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when senior leadership may not be present. Over a 24‑hour period you will provide:
- Leadership: Providing visible, calm, and confident leadership across the hospital.
- Decision‑Making: Balancing clinical needs with operational realities.
- Problem Solving: Quick thinking in emergencies or conflict situations.
- Support: Advocating for staff well‑being and patient safety.
- Communication: Liaising between departments and levels of seniority.
- Managing staff shortages and patient overload.
- Emotional strain of dealing with critical incidents.
- No typical day – priorities can shift in minutes.
