About the Role

This position is a dynamic, high-pressured, and full responsibility. The DNM plays a pivotal role in ensuring that hospital wards and departments operate smoothly, safely, and efficiently over a 24‑hour period, especially during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when senior leadership may not be present. Over a 24‑hour period you will provide:

  • Leadership: Providing visible, calm, and confident leadership across the hospital.
  • Decision‑Making: Balancing clinical needs with operational realities.
  • Problem Solving: Quick thinking in emergencies or conflict situations.
  • Support: Advocating for staff well‑being and patient safety.
  • Communication: Liaising between departments and levels of seniority.
  • Managing staff shortages and patient overload.
  • Emotional strain of dealing with critical incidents.
  • No typical day – priorities can shift in minutes.
