[What the role is]

The Waste Management Division (WMD) is responsible for the regulation of the waste collection industry, the Public Waste Collection scheme, General Waste Disposal Facilities, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, Disposable Carrier Bag Charge, Mandatory Packaging and Waste Reporting schemes. Through these programmes, WMD aims to achieve an efficient and sustainable waste-to-resource management system in Singapore.

The Producer Responsibility Department (PRD) oversees the development, administration and regulation of EPR schemes for waste streams such as e-waste and beverage containers, as well as the Disposable Carrier Bag Charge and Mandatory Packaging Reporting schemes. It is responsible for the licensing of the Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operators and regulation of recycling facilities under the EPR schemes.
