Lead Environmental Engineer

The role is part of the STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) national programme to deliver a prototype fusion energy plant. The Lead Environmental Engineer will report to the Head of Engineering Assurance and will provide specialist support to ensure the plant meets all environmental, regulatory and best‑practice requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop the STEP Environment Case and coordinate with the Safety Case team to support regulatory and permitting submissions, including Development Consent Orders.
• Act as the technical expert for the environmental discipline on STEP, defining the environmental and sustainability strategy and communicating it to senior leadership.
• Define scoping and procurement strategy for outsourced specialist work, ensuring studies meet the required environmental standards.
