The research group of the Emerging Fields project “A New Geometry for Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and Beyond” at the University of Vienna is pleased to announce openings for up to two three-year PhD positions.

The research focuses on Lorentzian Geometry, General Relativity, Metric Geometry, and Optimal Transport.


Funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), this project offers the opportunity to join an active international research group working on problems at the interface of mathematics and physics. The positions are expected to start in autumn 2026 (October or later).


We are seeking highly qualified candidates with a strong background in at least one, and preferably several, of the following areas:

Lorentzian and Riemannian Geometry,

Optimal Transport,

Metric Geometry,

Calculus of Variations,

Mathematical General Rel...
