How to become a project manager in the UK

Most project managers move sideways from another role rather than starting as a PM. The common path: spend 3‑5 years in a domain (engineering, IT, finance, marketing, construction), volunteer for or absorb project coordination work, then move into a junior PM role with PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner or APM PMQ certification. Alternatives include graduate scheme PM tracks, the Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship (Level 4), and the Project Manager Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6, BSc, paid throughout).
