Technical skills required for this area as outlined in Clinical Competency and Training Matrix and/or the department/unit Scope of Service. ICU nurses provide specialized care for critically ill adults with life‑threatening conditions such as trauma, sepsis, respiratory failure, burns, and multi‑organ dysfunction. Their scope includes advanced monitoring, emergency response, mechanical ventilation, vasopressor and dialysis therapies, complex post‑operative care, and skilled use of specialized equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, feeding tubes, catheters, and central lines to optimize patient outcomes.
