National Library s Services to Schools is looking for versatile and talented people to join our nationwide team of Capability Facilitators supporting literacy, learning and library development in New Zealand schools.  We are recruiting for two permanent and two fixed term (one year) roles. The permanent roles will be located in Auckland and/or Wellington. The fixed term roles could also potentially be based in Whanganui, Dunedin, Christchurch or Hamilton. We welcome interest from people who may be interested in part time roles.

The role of Facilitator is to develop capability in the library and education sectors with an emphasis on our priority areas of reading engagement, school library development and digital literacy. Additionally, we are developing a focus on connecting young people with their culture, heritage and identity enhanced by our new He Tohu Tāmaki learning environment. We are also growing our capability and focus on targeted support for school communities.  This is achieved through

  • delivery of Professional Learning and Development
  • developing online content to support professional practice
  • development of teaching and learning resources
  • developing capability within school communities
  • contributing professional expertise to cross-sector networks
  • facilitating collaborative work in targeted areas

Our team of Facilitators come from a range of professional backgrounds with both teaching and library qualifications and experience.  Within the team there is a depth of experience in reading and children s literature, school library development and digital and information literacy.

We welcome applications from people with:

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, advocacy and presentation skills which enable them to engage with Principals and educators and alongside others in the education, library and literacy sectors to effect change.
  • Deep interest and commitment to the Library s directions for supporting literacy and learning and knowledge and expertise in any or all of our priority areas of reading engagement, school library development and digital literacy.
  • An understanding of the diverse communities of Aotearoa New Zealand with Te Reo Māori an advantage.
  • Teaching and/or library experience and qualifications.
