This is a significant role and plays a key part in advocating for the business based membership across central New Zealand. About Business Central Business Central is a membership organisation dedicated to helping businesses to be their best by lifting their capability and ensuring New Zealand has the right policy settings for business. They offer services for businesses including advice, learning, and events as well as a strong advocacy programme of support to a wide range of organisations. The area of operation is across Central New Zealand – from Gisborne in the east, to New Plymouth in the west, and south to the Nelson area. As the voice of our members, Business Central works alongside the Business New Zealand and the New Zealand Chambers' of Commerce networks, which means you'll be a key contributor in the country's premier advocacy network for business. The ability is there to be involved in today's policy issues and build an unparalleled network. About the role You'll work closely with, and be an advisor to, the Chief Executive of Business Central. You'll lead the organisational advice, advocacy, and guidance for the membership, and be a key member of the highly collaborative senior leadership team. You'll have your finger on the pulse of all things political that impact the membership, and thoroughly enjoy that intersection of politics and business. Utilising your excellent research and critical analysis skills you'll analyse legislative or proposed change and its impact on our membership, and be able to present that clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences. Positive and deep relationship management will be core to your approach as you'll develop and maintain deep, trusting, and credible relationships within our areas of work, applying a strategic lens over all that you do. You'll play a key part in the annual governance programme, and lead or be involved in strategic projects as they evolve. Also, you'll manage a highly capable Marketing and Design team. You'll ensure delivery of high-quality material that truly reflects our work, members, and brand. Experience in marketing and design is not required as past experience. About you Ideally, you'll simply love the cut and thrust of politics, be it via local or central government, and able to quickly pick up on key issues, nuances, and areas of impact. You may have worked in a political office, with campaign groups, think tanks, or in a Chief Advisory role. In addition, you would bring a range of skills and experiences to the table including: recent team leadership experience strong strategic and critical thinking abilities excellent stakeholder and relationship engagement skills strong attention to detail with a sharp risk radar excellent communication and presentation capabilities. You'll be adept at working at pace, be decisive, and able to represent the organisation with credibility, and have a strong appetite and preferably experience in, advancing business interests of a broad base.
