About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, creates and supports safe, healthy, inspiring and ICT enabled learning environments. EIS manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,500 schools with a book value of $18 billion, is responsible for the largest payroll in the country, and transports over 100,000 students to and from school each day.

About the role

EIS key strategic suppliers represent an annual expenditure in excess of $100m pa. We have a need for several Commercial Managers who will provide commercial management, guidance and oversight to enhance commercial activities across significant commercial agreements held by the Ministry.

The Commercial Managers will primarily have responsibility for the Ministry’s commercial relationships with allocated strategic supplier(s), strategic panel arrangement(s) and other suppliers as required.

You will work collaboratively with other EIS Procurement functions, stakeholders and wider Ministry staff to build and maintain sustainable long term supplier relationships which deliver quality outcomes for EIS.

Your Key Priorities will include: 

  • Manage internal stakeholders to support and lead (as appropriate), negotiations, dispute resolution, resolving performance issues or where commercial/supplier management expertise is required.
  • Work with the Senior Commercial Manager (Commercial Procurement) to ensure that supplier management activities are implemented and undertaken and that related supplier management initiatives are aligned with the Ministry’s strategic direction, and all-of-government strategy and standards.
  • Ensure that the relationships the Ministry has with strategic suppliers foster a cooperative, respectful and productive working relationship.
  • Own and influentially nurture relationship between stakeholders and suppliers to identify and implement value add.
  • Lead and/or contribute to projects where commercial relationship expertise is required.

About you

Ideally you will have very highly developed commercial relationship management experience with a preference for experience in leading the development and delivery of commercial outcomes within a large infrastructure organisation or similar complex organisation.

You will also offer: 

  • Highly developed influencing, commercial/contract negotiation experience including experience in managing high value and/or politically sensitive services.
  • Significant relationship building experience including the ability to provide operational advice, influence and consult with a broad range of senior stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is essential.
  • Full Member (Level 6 / MCIPS) is desirable.
