Mō te tūranga | About the role
The primary purpose of the role is to apply expert knowledge to public health communicable disease investigations with particular emphasis on vaccine-preventable disease and outbreaks in the community. As a Communicable Disease Nurse, you will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Health Protection Officers, and Medical Officers of Health to prevent the spread of disease across the Southern region as per current contracts with the Ministry of Health. You will also be undertaking some vaccinations for vaccine-preventable diseases when required.
The role is based in our Queenstown Public Health Offices. While this role is usually based during normal business hours, there may be instances where you may need to work outside of these hours, as in an emergency response situation.
You will be joining a vibrant team that has a wide variety of roles and areas of work with a large focus on Communicable Disease and Environmental Health. It provides a great opportunity to learn a wide scope of areas in public health while using your registered nursing qualifications.
The position is a 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) role.

This role belongs to the Te Whatu Ora/NZNO Collective Agreement and falls between Step 2 ($81,683 p.a. pro-rata) and Step 7 ($106,739 p.a.) of the Registered Nurse Salary Scale.
