As a recent or new graduate , who meets the Midwifery Council and NZCOMenrolment requirements for the Midwifery First year of Practice programme(MFYP), we will assist your transition to practice through a comprehensiveorientation, access to midwifery educator support and a range of clinicalexperiences to help prepare you to become a confident midwifery practitioner.
As a midwife you will be able to useall of your clinical and organisational skills and expertise across pregnancy,birthing and postnatal care.
You will be rostered across AM,PM and Nights and will have the choice of working 4 hr, 8 hr or 12 hr shifts. The bestpart of our unique midwifery first year of practice programme is being fullysupported to get to experience working across our two secondary units (greatexperience!), our primary unit, and community midwifery teams too!

The Nelson Hospital secondarymaternity team works closely with our local primary maternity unit, located inMotueka, and our other secondary maternity unit based at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim
As a part of yourfirst year of practice you will have the opportunity to work across both secondaryunits, the midwifery led primary unit, and with our community midwifery teamstoo!! This means you will get to experience all areas of midwifery to find outwhat you love the most.
We will support youwith accommodation and travel to work and experience all of these opportunitiesas a unique part of our Midwifery First Year of Practice programme. If you likeworking across more than one area, after your first year of practice – you willalso be able to do so! You get to experience the best of Te Tau Ihu – the topof the south!
